Mindful Listening

In our mindfulness lessons at school we practiced mindful listening with a mindfulness bell. We sat tall with our mindful bodies and focused on the sound of the bell as long as we could. If we got distracted, we tried to gently bring our attention back to the bell. We also focused on the sounds around us – noticing everything from the construction outside to our own breath. We found that focusing on a pleasant sound or the sounds around us can be calming for our mind and body.

*Family Challenge:  Try sitting together with mindful body and listening to the sounds around you for 10 seconds. Try mindful listening before a meal, while on a walk, or any time. What did you each notice? Was it the same or different? How do you feel?
