Hello! My name is Ana Bartl and I am thrilled to be the Principal at Burroughs Community School!

I began my career as a teacher for Minneapolis Public Schools in 1999. Throughout my career I spent twelve years as a classroom teacher, teaching third grade my first year and middle school mathematics for the next eleven years.  Since leaving the classroom I have worked at the district level as an Instructional Leader and Turnaround Program Specialist.   In these roles I mentored and coached teachers, designed and led professional development, and supported schools with mathematics programing at the elementary and middle school levels.

In addition to working within the Minneapolis Public School system, I have been working as a workshop facilitator for The Origins Program over the past nine years.  In this role, I lead professional development for k-12 educators in school districts throughout the country. The emphasis of this professional development is creating successful learning environments through building relationships and meeting the needs of all children.

I received my bachelor's degree from the University of St. Thomas, where I earned a double major in Elementary Education and Spanish Language.  In 2001, I received middle school licensure in the area of mathematics and in 2005 I earned a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning from St. Mary's University.  After working at the district level as an Instructional Leader, I pursued the degree of Education Specialist at the University of St. Thomas and received my Administrative Licensure in 2014 at which time I accepted the position as Assistant Principal at Burroughs Community School.

As the Assistant Principal at  Burroughs, I quickly learned about how wonderful Burroughs Community School is and I am honored to be a part of the Burroughs community both as a neighbor and school leader.  As I begin this school year in my new role as Principal,  I am humbled to have been chosen to serve this community and excited to continue my leadership journey here.  I look forward to continuing many of the wonderful traditions that have made Burroughs what it is today as well as forging new traditions in the future!
