Ukulele in partnership with Twin Town Guitars

Beginning Ukulele Group

During this 6-week group session full of learning and laughter, we'll discover the simplicity and joy of playing the ukulele together. Each week we meet, we will build on the previous lesson by adding new skills, chords, and songs. We will complete the class with a group performance for family and friends. (No previous music experience is required, and ukuleles/tuners are available for purchase with the class.)

Please contact Carrie Bell at carrie@twintown.com with any questions, or learn about class dates and register at http://twintown.com/burroughs.

Intermediate Ukulele Group

Building upon skills from Beginning Uke Group, we'll kick it up a notch as we learn more chords and songs during this rocking, 6-week group class. Continue taking Intermediate Uke Group throughout the year too, as every session is unique. And, at the end of every session, we will complete the class with a group performance for family and friends.(Prerequisite: Beginning Uke Group.)

Destination Imagination

Destination Imagination is an before or after-school enrichment program where teams of 5-7 students develop answers to challenges about diverse topics incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning. Students then compete against their peers. Participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem-solving process. For more information visit www.DestinationImagination.org or contact DI Chair Jen Thorp.

Lego League

In late summer, FIRST LEGO League releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the FLL Core Values. Teams of up to ten children, with at least one adult coach, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FLL Core Values. Teams may then attend an official tournament, hosted by our FIRST LEGO League Partners. Past Challenges have been based on topics such as nanotechnology, climate, quality of life for the handicapped population, and transportation. By designing our Challenges around such topics, participants are exposed to potential career paths within a chosen Challenge topic, in addition to solidifying the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles that naturally come from participating in the program. Team members also learn valuable life and employment skills which will benefit them no matter which career path they choose.
