We recognize that social distancing and distance learning has impacted children and families is many ways. Below are some resources to support the social emotional wellbeing of our community.

Burroughs School Psychologist, Maggie Hogan continues to offer office hours to the students, staff and families of the Burroughs community! She will be available from 11 am-12 pm every Thursday through Google Meet.

Emotion of the Week - Reflective
Free Food for Children
To better serve our community, MPS will provide DAILY food box pick-up at Longfellow Park starting Monday, June 1 in addition to our other 49 weekly food pick-up sites. Free food boxes will be available for pick-up at Longfellow Park (3435 36th Avenue South) Monday-Friday, 10am-2pm, until further notice.
Summer update: Weekly food boxes for all children, 18 and under, will continue through at least Friday, July 24. Right now our plans run through the end of Minneapolis Public Schools summer school. We will keep the community informed as plans develop for August and beyond.
Each food box contains fresh produce and items for fourteen meals--seven breakfasts and seven lunches. Families are welcome to take one box per child, per week, and all families are welcome to participate in this program. Children do not need to be an MPS student to receive this food. Many of the items require refrigeration. Supplemental groceries are also available for families in partnership with The Sheridan Story, while supplies last. You can find us at schools and parks across Minneapolis Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just look for the yellow school bus. To keep families and staff safe, we provide contract-free pick-up. Minneapolis Kids
Minneapolis Kids is an MPS Community Education program that provides in-person summer care for children entering 1st - 7th grade. The program offers a safe space for children to explore fun and creative ways to navigate new social challenges such as physical distancing, hand washing and self-care. All programming follows state-recommended safety guidelines regarding small-class sizes, sanitation practices and physical distancing.
Program Eligibility
Spots are provided based on the following priority groups:

Eligible children of Tier 1 and Tier 2 Critical Sector Workers under the Governor's Executive Order 20-57.

Families who qualify for educational benefits or free and reduced price school meals. For families in need of care and assistance with fees, resources may be available through the Hennepin County Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) and County Scholarships. Find out if you qualify for CCAP benefits by calling 612-348-5937.

Space for other families will be provided based on availability.
2020 summer programming at all sites include:

Engaging activities throughout the day that promote social emotional learning, STEAM, creative arts, literacy and many other learning opportunities.

Space and technology will be available for children who are attending the 2020 summer school session through Distance Learning.

Nutrition Services provides breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Upon request, limited transportation may be available from 8:30 am - 3 pm in your school zone for families listed under Program Eligibility 1 and 2 (as listed above).

Enrollment requirements: Families must commit to at least 9 weeks and be in the program at least 4 days per week.

Registered children must be able to self-manage wearing a face covering while participating in this program.

Yearbooks
Unfortunately we have yet to receive our yearbooks from Lifetouch. If we receive the yearbooks before the end of the school year, we will distribute them only to 5th graders on the day when they pick up their other final items. The remainder of yearbooks will be distributed in August or when students return to on-site school. Even though a 5th grader may have a younger sibling who might be getting a yearbook too we will be holding all other yearbooks until we are together again at Burroughs. If your family will be leaving Burroughs and needs your yearbook sent to you please email Beth Alvarez and she will arrange for that yearbook to be sent to you. We are sorry for the change in the end of the year distribution of yearbooks but with social distancing restrictions and safety precautions we need to limit the number of items that we are asking families to pick up at the end of the year to essential items only.
